When does $5.00 equal more than $50.00?
And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all: For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.
Luke 21:1-4
How is a smaller amount given equal more than a larger amount? In God’s economy.
The story Jesus tells was one where he watched someone give, it just happened to be a widow woman, He watched her give what we would consider a trivial amount, while someone else gave, what we would call an exorbitant amount.
Jesus explained to his disciples and those around what the difference was. I highly doubt that woman knew Jesus was watching or that she would be written about for all of eternity. She was poor, she was destitute in the worlds economy and yet Jesus said she gave more. She gave not of abundance, she had no abundance. She have not out of excess, she had no excess.
As Jesus pointed out the difference of the widow, it was in comparison to “they all” He had watched the rich cast in their gift and yet He said the widow gave more? They gave out of their abundance. They gave out of their excess. They gave out of their leftovers.
Giving…if Jesus had not given His all where would we be today? When we realize everything we have is a gift, yes we work for a wage, but the gift of health, ability, knowledge…where does that come from? We are stewards….good or bad. Jesus took ALL that a little boy had, 5 loaves and 2 fishes. He prayed, He blessed it and then it was multiplied by impossible math and yet fed over 5,000.
I have widow women that give to help support me as I am going to Ukraine….it humbles me, it amazes me, but I so understand where they are coming from. You can NEVER outgive the Lord. I had one lady place in my hand some money and she said, it is not much…..I hadn’t looked at the amount and truly the amount did not matter. I told her, it is not about the amount, it is about our obedience.
When we give from our heart knowing all we have belongs to Him anyway, He never fails to meet our needs and oh so many time our desires too.
In 34 days, I plan to board a plane headed for Ukraine. At this time, I am not 100% funded for my monthly budget….that fact will not stop me from the Lord has called me to do. Here is an opportunity for you to give to the Lords work .https://www.launchinternational.net/stephanie-flohr
